FIDA Uganda trains 100 Young Women Lawyers on Community Legal Education

On Saturday 25 September 2010, FIDA Uganda held a full day of free training for young women lawyers. The training was aimed at helping young women lawyers learn how to conduct successful community legal education sessions.

The trainers included several high profile members of FIDA Uganda; Ms. Jackie Asiimwe Mwesige, Hon. Sarah Bagalaliwo, Ms. Christine Mugerwa Kasule, Hon. Justice Irene Mulyagonja, Her Worship Lillian Mwandha, Dr. Maria Nassali, and Ms. Laura Nyirinkindi. They shared their experiences in community legal education, including several tips, tricks, do’s and don’ts. The trainers also shared their personal experiences and invaluable knowledge on the challenges faced by women lawyers in Uganda, and how to surmount those challenges.

Trainees were mostly recent graduates. Many of them joined FIDA Uganda as members after the training. During the training they listened attentively, took notes, participated actively, asked questions, networked, and laughed at each other while performing skits. Lunch and tea breaks were provided during the training.

well thax FIDA. we surely benefited from this training

  • Hi FIDA,i am really greatful for the kind of work you are doing in communities,as you put up trainings for young women lawyers,am of a view that how about if you included some other professionals for example teachers.I am a teacher but i have noted that we teach disturbed, challenged as well as traumatised children and students. Some of these confide in us, others we learn through friends,at times even parents have shown concern, this has not discriminated whether fathers or mothers but our hands are so tied that little we can help, but children fathers and mothers terribly go through a lot in homes but if Fida can include other stakeholders to battle sensitisation part of it as lawyers battle law,i hope a lot of fruits will be attained.Well done FIDA
